Taniti Tourism · Official visitor guide

Visitor essentials

Power, money, rules, health, and safety — everything we hear about most from guests.

Power

Outlets are 120 volts — the same as in the United States.

Alcohol

Alcohol may not be served or sold between midnight and 9:00 a.m. The drinking age is 18 and is not strictly enforced.

Language

Many younger Tanitians speak fluent English. In rural areas, especially among older residents, very little English is spoken.

Health

Taniti has one hospital and several clinics. The hospital has many multilingual employees, so visitors who need care can often get help in more than one language.

Safety

Violent crime is very rare. As tourism grows, pickpocketing and petty theft are reported more often — take usual precautions in crowds.

Holidays

Taniti observes many national holidays. Attractions and restaurants may close — check hours and plan ahead.

Money

The U.S. dollar is the official currency. Many businesses also accept euros and yen. Banks offer currency exchange, and major credit cards are widely accepted.
